Also, the board has clarified that after the relaxation of the rule students who had Basic Mathematics will now be allowed to take up the subject in Class 11 without having to reappear for the Compartmental Exam. However, the board has also directed school heads to make sure that such students have the aptitude and ability to pursue Mathematics in Class 11.

According to Board, this exemption is being given as a onetime measure to facilitate the present batch of students. The two-level Maths namely Standard and Basic has been introduced by the CBSE in the year 2019 and made it mandatory that students who want to pursue Mathematics as a subject in Class 11 and 12 need to pass the Mathematics Standard paper in Class 10 while other should opt for Mathematics Basic. The standard of questions in Basic Mathematics is easier than that of Mathematics Standard so students who want to pursue commerce or humanities stream can opt for Basic level.

As the Board is postponing schedule of the compartmental exam due to coronavirus pandemic, this rule has been implemented. Once the health situation will improve, the board will announce the details of compartmental examinations.
