CBSE reduced Syllabus by 30 percent for Session 2020-21

Coronavirus has impacted every sphere of human life also academically. Thus, the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) decided to reduce the curriculum for classes IX to XII by an estimated 30 per cent for the session 2020-21. Talking about the reasons, the CBSE cited the spread of Covid and the resulting loss of classroom teaching. CBSE has issued a new notification dated July 7 with more details about the CBSE syllabus reduction and changes.


The CBSE released circular stated that stakeholders explained the reduced topics to to the extent required to connect different topics. However the reduced syllabus will not be part of the topics for Internal Assessment and year-end Board Examination.

“Alternative Academic Calendar and inputs from the NCERT on transacting the curriculum using different strategies may also be part of the teaching pedagogy,” the circular says.

It added “For Elementary Classes (I-VIII) schools may follow the Alternative Academic Calendar and Learning Outcomes specified by NCERT,”.
